Default Cut-down 20' SeaCraft

I was down in the Keys again yesterday, and saw a '77 20 SeaCraft for sale in Big Pine that had been cut down into a flats skiff. At first I thought it was another knock-off, but when I asked the owner (at a gas station) he said it was a boat he had salvaged after Hurricane Charley. He cut the hullsides down by 12" at the bow, and 6 inches at the transom, and threw away the cap. He kept the liner and console, and made a new cap that's a full foot wide all along the gunwales. He had a Yamaha 150 mounted on a jack-plate.

I didn't have a camera, or I'd have taken pix. Has anyone else run into this boat? The owner says he lives on Sugarloaf.

Father Frank,

What was he asking?

What do you think the draft is?

about the same as one that hadn't been cut down. Somebody had fun with a sawsall for absolutely no gain whatsoever. Want a flats boat? BUY A FLATS BOAT.

I guess that my point is that on the upside it should have a nice ride & the down side is that you're not going to be cutting across any real skinney water.

Jason,

What's this new dual address business (Newport and Key West)? Must be nice.

Well I can tell ya as someone who has a few hours on a poling platform on the flats of the lower keys... a SeaCraft ain't no boat to push!Sounds like a waste of a perfectly good deep water hull.Might make an OK taropn boat, but not a true flats skiff.

I have no idea what the draft would be. Depends on how much lighter the boat is. He was asking $8400 including the trailer. The work on the boat looked very professional, but with a 10-15 yr. old motor, it's WAY too much money. The trailer was an older Rolls single axle aluminum 1935 with surge brakes. (19' & 3500lb capacity)

I guesstimated the boat to be worth around 5K including electronics.

I will say this, it was a VERY attractive looking boat. Not as good looking as a Seafari or Seavette, but very nice.

Hey Ryan! Are you John's boy? If you are swing by my shop and look at the 20' I'm redoing. Ask your dad where it is.
