Awlgrip
Just curious if anyone has ever rolled and tipped Awlgrip?
I am doing our new boat and it is quite interesting. The finish is the shiniest stuf I have ever seen but quite delicate to work with. First coat looked gawd awful, second coat looks Awesome, 3rd coat not sure yet. I painted my 23 Savage last year with Imron MS600 and it looks ok but no where near as shiny as Awlgrip. I will have almost a gallon left over of Fighting Lady yellow and may redo the Savage.

Re: Awlgrip
I'd like to say I've seen them use it at the Merritts yard when I was there a few years ago. Yea, Awlgrip is awesome, I posted some pics when we were painting my boat and its hard to tell that your looking at the boat and not the plastic on the walls of the building.- Great stuff. rember to have plenty of ventilation and a good respirator, that stuff can be leathal when sprayed.

Re: Awlgrip
Is it the spraying that makes it airborne and thus lethal. Are the fumes lethal if you are only rolling it?

Re: Awlgrip
I have rolled and tipped it with pretty nice results on repairs. But you have to have a real comfort and understanding of what to do to make it lay out nice when you are doing larger conspicuos areas. I too first saw it done with great success at Merritt's, they were doing a whole 37. Those guys were darn good, they were a perfect team. From ten feet it was hard to tell it wasn't sprayed. My understanding of why rolling and tipping got so big with Awlgrip is Cost. You don't have to cover nearby boats, maybe stop work depending on the job. Not all the overspray in the air. If I remember correctly it was gonna cost 35 grand to spray the boat I was on and they could roll n tip for 10 grand less. The bigger and more ornate the job, the bigger the savings.

Re: Awlgrip
I think that if your trying to have kids, I'd freeze some stuff before painting I really dont think that any of this stuff is good for you (resin, paint, etc.)
I'D READ THE MSDS on ANY PRODUCT berfore using it! |
