The original owner had mounted the raw water pump on the inside of the transom in the rear port seat hatch. I don't understand why would you put screws into a 40 year old transom especially without any 5200 or epoxy

(considering where the intake is, your console might be too far forward to get proper suction) You could use the same space. Just 5200 or 2 part epoxy glue some 3/4" PVC board to the transom & then screw the pump to the PVC board. Try to mount it verticaly (motor up) and then run your lines

Seen PVC board mentioned a couple of times lately. What is it and where do you get it? Also is it like starboard?

Rigid Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) board It has excellent corrosion and weather resistance. As well as a high strength-to-weight ratio and is good electrical and thermal insulator as it is fire retardant and self-extinguishing. It has many usages. PVC foam board has many of the same characteristics of wood that it easily sawed, bonded, nailed, painted, caulk sealed, joint and hot moulding. I glue mine with the same PVC pipe cement. Can't do this with starboard. Some Sign shops carry it.

Can I simply glue the foam board to the transom and then mount the pump on that? Or do I have to seal up the foam with fiberglass or epoxy or something? Does it absorb water?

mine is mounted in the rear port hatch but its on the "cockpit" side as opposed to the transom side. its close to the intake and out of the way. i try to keep the inside of my console as empty as possible. any chance of water spraying around in there just seems bad to me.
