18 SF gunwhale caps

Getting ready to recore my caps and need some help. Are they rigid enough for me to remove then make a jig to keep the curvature correct? I want to make sure the curves remain intact while recoring. I have a fear of them moving or twisting enough to not fit when I reinstall them. Any opinions welcome.

I dont believe they are compound curves..I think if you just keep the topside flat when recoring you sould be fine.....pm alexh...here is is build on his 18 http://www.classicseacraft.com/commu...ad.php?t=23401
I have to tackle that next as well..but mine are attached with 5200

That's where I'm in good shape. The last time they were removed and reinstalled, whomever did the work used silicone, so, mine should be very easy to get off. The bond has all but separated from the cap.

I recored with plywood squares and laid 1708 over it. The caps were moved and and rested in all sorts of positions over 6months and never got any real shape to them. When I reinstalled them they could be twisted back enough to make the install fairly easy. I have yet to recaulk them and I don't really see a reason to. More area for water to sit and create a moldy caulk line.

Thanks for the replies. I should have looked at them BEFORE I had all those beers! I guess a beer buzz challenges my geometrical vision somewhat. Hope everyone has a wonderful Memorial Day weekend. Remember the folks that made it possible!! Now where did I put that beer.....
