Question Determining the year of a JohnyRude 300HP

Calling all Evinrude/Johnson Experts
I just acquired a 300 HP, I beleive 4.0 Liter Evinrude/Johnson.
The tag that's on the OB Bracket is dead wrong- indicating a 175.
I believe the 4.0 liters were made 1991-1994?????
I beleive this to be the case as I got a head part # of 333555(superceeded by 340797), and limited research shows it to be 1994- the last year they made the 300hp 4.0 L V8

My cowling looks different, that the GT300 or the XP300 it has no side vents.

Isn't there some place on the block that will have an identifier? Near a freeze plug?

What other Identifiers should I look for, please?

Much Big Thanks In Advance!!!!
B
