Default 2003 yamaha f225 overheat alarm issues

i have been experiencing an overheat alarm on my yami , there is no real rhyme or reason to when it happens . Seems to happen when i run a while then idle along . I can sit a few minutes and usually get back to dock with no more alarm. It even went off after not running for an hour or so at boat ramp . I started it and the alarm went off when i was running it up on the trailer. The water pump was changed last year and seem to have a good stream of water. I was wondering if it might just be a faulty temp sensor? Any thoughts.

F225 huh ?

overheat warning at low rpm's is a symptom of exhaust corrosion...

year of engine ?
