This was pulled from Stick's thread "Back in the Saddle Again"...
"These are the bolts I'm waiting on to mount the windows. They are from American marine which is now owned by Pompanette. There is a new guy answering the phone and he did not know what I was talking about. First he said they did not have them and I said you got to have them! so I sent him a picture and he was able to find me a pack of 20. I dont know where else you could find these special bolts." ![]() Here are "elevator" bolts, available in stainless from Bolt Depot, that will work if you grind the round head to an oval shape. Don't over tighten them or you may spread the aluminum windshield frame channel. http://www.boltdepot.com/Elevator_bo...-8_1_4-20.aspx ![]()

I think bolt shown in the photo is also known as a "closet bolt." They are available in brass and 305 stainless (57 cents/ea.)... I used some to put in a toilet recently

Good tip and thanks for the post. The toilet bolts are exactly the same as the ones that came out of both my 25 seafari and 20 sceptre. But I did not want to go brass and I could not find them in stainless at any of the local hardware stores. It was mentioned in my post that ss carriage bolts worked for one of the members and they do fit nicely into the window channel however they will spin when tightening unless you can pull down on the bolt when tightening to keep the square part of the carriage bolt into the channel. I could not make them work for my application due to the tight area I had to work with. I ended up getting the original bolts from American Marine at a reasonable cost and life was good again.

Boy what a great bit of input on the toilet bolts. I had occasion to look for those exact bolts for a truck cap/ rack that I had and couldn't find a darned thing to replace some broken ones. I ended up grinding some carriage bolts that worked but these are just regular toilet closet flange bolts!
Thanks for sharing the ideas, both Handful and McGillicuddy- I just made a mental note. For anyone up here in the northeast looking around for these at the hardware store they are referred to in the trade as "Johnny Bolts". Be sure to use the rest of your Boston accent also well when ordering... Thumbs up. |

I used (4) brass toilet bolts on my Mako 251 resto 10 years ago. Spoke with the new owner last week (he is in my neck of the woods, and the windshield is still rock solid. Don't be afraid of the home depot brass t-bolts. Cheap and get the job done.
