Buying Remotely
I found a Seacraft I want to buy but it is cross country. Trouble is the buyer only wants green cash but I don't have a way to do that without traveling across country. I'll have a survey and shipping to get the boat home but don't have a way to pay in cash. I thought about using a broker but reputable ones won't deal in cash.
Any experience with with this or ideas? |

What parts of the country are you are talking?
Where are you and where is the boat? How much money are you talking here? |

Scowman,
When found my 21 in MI, I talked to the guy for twenty minutes got the right vibe and wired cash from my credit union to his never having seen the boat. That very day he fedexed the title and keys and I got it the next day. Then shipping became the obstacle. But the dude winterized it and stored it on his lot until I was able to find a shipper. Where is the boat? Is it one of the vettes?... Good guys all over this board nationwide might know the owner and help facilitate. Good luck. Drop me a line when you got a sec. Gillie

I am sure if you post the approx. part of the country there will be some Seacraft nut that would go take a look at it for you and then you could go from there!

Send a certified bank check (if you trust him) and he can go to the bank an turn it into green cash once it arrives. A lot of people don't want personal checks but certified funds are good as cash unless you don't want a paper trail and if he was worried about the paper trail then this would worry me.
Also I went and looked and my seacraft doesn't have any nuts, she must be female.... Oh, you mean people Lol...

Thanks for all the help!
Boat is in Naples FL. $9k for a 23 Sceptre with Yamaha twins. Would like a Seavette but Sceptre more practical (more deck room for family, good all-purpose boat). |

Back in '11 my father sold his 23 Sceptre to a guy in Washington state site unseen. The guy spoke to my dad on the phone for an hour, got a good vibe and jumped in his truck the next day. He happened to have a bank account with B of A, so he was able to go to a local branch in Mass. to get the cash.
I agree with flyingfrizzle that if the seller doesn't want a paper trail, you should walk away. |

Roadtrip. Gas up your vehicle and go get it.
If your life is so busy that you can't do a weekend cross-country drive to pick up a boat, when do you plan to use the boat in question? It takes two days to drive from the Pacific to the Atlantic. Two days to drive back. Call in sick on Friday or Monday and post photos of your trip. |
