Default 1977 SC Angler new member

I bought this 1977 Seacraft Angler this June(my first boat) to fish off the Ct coastline. The boat had some electrical issues and I thought about selling it for a more reliable boat. It has had a lot of neglect. I decided to try to sell it and ended up buying a 205 WA Cuddy sportcraft with a 200hp 4 stroke. After a ride or two in the sportcraft I knew I was making a huge mistake. There was no comparison between the 2 boats-the sportcraft felt like a whale compared to my Angler. The hulls react very different, cross a wake in the Seacraft without much of a concern, in the Sportcraft hang on and wait for the slam.
The Sportcraft is now for sale and I am starting to overhaul and repower with my Seacraft. More posts to follow as I have never refitted a boat.

John,
Welcome to CSC.

Based on the pic you posted on your scupper thread, the boat has been redone once already and it doesn't look like a professional job. Before you tear into it, spend some time going through some threads in Repairs/Modifications to get an idea of what you're getting yourself into.

If the deck is stilll solid, you may want to just take care of the wiring issues and run it as-is for a while. Once you start taking her apart, you're going to have a can of worms on your hands. The more you look, the more stuff you'll find that you want to fix.

Take the amount of time and $$ you think it will take to get her in the shape you want and triple it to get a realistic idea of the real cost. It's worth it if you can get through it, but a lot of guys get started and never finish because they had unrealistic expectations at the outset.

Thanks for the replies. The floor does have some soft spots and I thought it wouldn't be too much trouble to replace it. Things start getting complicated when I start to fix my self bailing problem(no scuppers) by raising the floor 2" and installing through transom scuppers.
Also a previous owner took a saws all to one of the bait boxes and attempted to remove it (Hack Job). So now I have to lift the cap off to fix that. Then...
Thanks again, I am glad I have all winter

Thumbs up

Jon,

I was in your shoes in 2010 when I bought my first boat and refitted it. NO major glass work was needed for me. It was a 1986 BIDDISON 1800. Check the link below. Lots of good before and after pics. I did everything myself except the engine and steering rigging. I had never refitted a boat before either. Best learning experience for me!

Good luck. I will be happy to help you if I can. Congrats on the Seacraft. I actually pulled the trigger on a 1986 SF23 yesterday. Should have it delivered next week. Cant wait to start on her!
