The Vortec 5.7 motors have about 10-15% better Brake Specific Fuel Consumption but you won't be getting a new one from Merc - they dropped the 5.7 from their line. If you want a 'smallish' block Merc you now have to get the 6.2l/377cid 350HP motor. I heard they have finally ironed the problems out of it and it is almost the same size as a 5.7...

Tag on motor reads 5.7 and 250 on the side.

What's that mean ?

that means it's a 2bbl carb'd merc 5.7

the 5.7 - with a 2bbl was 250hp

very reliable !

outdrives require yearly service

I have had 3 different versions of the small block chevy. in 3 different size boats. Cruising speed was different in each one. However the burn rate is very similar...approx. 8 gph at cruise or 2800-3000 rpm.

Islandtrader.........when will you post some more video's of your 21' in action ?
I submit that you have a bit of an " obligation" to provide video's.......
Reasons being this hull so rare, special, and re done thanks to you.
Your boat fans crave to see the 21' in choppy / rough seas, taken from close spotter boat, showing your rig catching up, and passing through 3-4' chop, etc. The more......the better !

Of course, we understand, some guys like to keep their classics garaged, where they can wax it with soft rags, and show it off to crowds of worshippers......

It's just that a Ferrari was made to run ! A 69' 426 hemi cuddy made to rip ! A 60' Viking made to blast offshore !!.................and a 21' Moesly, well, we all know what that was built to do.............

Maybe some time this fall...I have been on the road since the middle of May and most likely will not be home until some time in August. So the 64 Fastback fuelie Vette will be undercover for some time to come. Life does get in the way. LOL

I have the efi version, 5.7 LX 260hp Alpha gen II in my '74 23 Tsunami. 22-24kt cruise at 2900-3000rpm, 8 gph is about right on the fuel burn. Good quiet economical set up, ok if you trailer but not my 1st choice if you keep her in the water all season. no matter how good a job you do with antifouling paint on the drive, always seems to attract growth. Usually go in the water and have at it with a brush every 2 weeks or so.

My numbers are almost exactly as the ones above, however Im running a carbed 260hp 350 with an Alpha drive.with 1.650 gear ratio.Im spinning a 15-1/2 × 17 stainless steel Mirage prop.I'm a slow learner however, sometimes I can get it trimmed out perfect and hit that 8 gph number, and other days I'm closer to10 gph.( Flo-Scan readings)
On a flat day however, my fuel burn, rpms, and speed is almost identical to the above as stated by bobfish21

I dont slip it anymore I launch and load daily fresh water so no antifouling needed
