Default Hugh Saint's shop Master builder

Tuesday I really got lucky, one phone call and had an appointment to tour a master craftsmen boat builder and repair facility in Cape Coral. The owner is Hugh Saint and his partner is Tom. When I have more time I will expand on the tour, Some pics to start off.

This is a all wood 72 foot he built and is going to be shipped to Canada. The orange pic is the hull exterior and made of OSB, the buyer was a multi billionaire in Canada and big in OSB boards. He demanded all OSB construction. Hugh could write several books and certainly should. He is a devoted follower of the West System Epoxy.

I'd never guess that anyone would build a boat with OSB, did he say what the benefits are?

There is no benefit at all Hugh had to do the build with OSB due to the fact that the buyer would not budge and use any ply wood, " why would I use my competitors wood"

Hugh did several tests with the OSB and it failed horribly. He incorporated several layers of glass between layers of OSB so it would not be seen.

Did he tell the owner his wood failed miserably?

Little bit of everything in that shop.

Default OSB ugh

No surprise the OSB failed, doesn't even make a good book shelf! Not just a stunt, worse than that, deceptive advertising by the boat owner to his friends & clients on OSB. Yeah, we've also seen a few concrete boats through the years- very few. Concrete is no good in tension without pre-stressing the steel to keep the concrete in compression, not to mention its density.

Default Oh, well...

Mr. Saint makes some pretty boats. That's good. I'm sure even w OSB, Mr. Saint's craftsmanship will overcome OSB's deficits.

As we see every day on the news networks - some "billionaires" have more dollars then sense.

That right there is one bad MoFo.

He really does need to write a book. Or at the very least just write it down to keep in his family
