Default One Way Motorwell Drain Tubes

As I already have the Hermco-built splashwell and am raising my transom 2", I rarely expect to get water over the transom in my SC lake usage. In the past I operated with the drain plug removed which was a problem at rest with heavier guests in the jump seats. With the transom height increase I expect to keep the plug in all the time.

Does anyone know of any reliable one way drain tubes so any over the transom water runs out but none comes it? Got pics or part numbers? Must be something that does not plug easily by small debris, etc. Thx

Hey Capt., we ran two pretty cool rubber “Duckbills” on the Jersey Skiff. Interesting boat racing theory. Anytime you could spray your prop wash over the bow of your trailing opponent you flood them with additional weight that he could not purge. Seriously slowed the shit out of him, actually. These duckbills go in from outside the transom, start out circular, but in same diameter, come to a closed opening aft, making it a one way valve. Pretty cool and may be exactly what you’re looking for. I’ll stop by my brothers and see if he can put his hands on them. Been ten years.?.

Thx Michael, now that you mention it I saw duckbills Years agowhere theywere being used as a bilge drain plug. Then heard about boats sinking after they got old or fatigued. In a motorwell application that won’t happen. But am guessing they worked as drain plugs due to the venturi effect running through the water, which wouldn’t br the case for a motorwell drain.

I’m not sure they actually touched the water because they were resting on the cav plate that never really came in contact with the water surface. I don’t believe it was a Venturi effect as much as water pressure wanting to escape. Haven’t gotten to my brothers shop today.

Default Versaplugs

Thx Michael. Online I found a versaplug made by PWC which has a ball check valve made for SeaDoos. Will look into it more. Sounds like a natural for my splashwell drain when the heavies are sitting in the stern jump seats. Hsve to check dimensions to make sure it doesn't stick too far aft.

This is a Versiplug-R which looks the most compatible. I have requested dimensions like how far does it stick aft from the transom. Vezo could you or a 20' owner with an ETEC 150 determine the clearance between the back of the transom at the drain hole to the all the way trimmed in engine? Maybe measure through the drain hole or use modeling clay. My engine is on a stand right now. Much thanks

Saw these the other day and thought they were pretty slick. Dunno howd they do backing up though on this particular boat they were on though... Real thin plastic, couldnt tell what material exactly. Slapped shut with no effort. Maybe a vertical orientation on the transom?
