Hello, New 20' SF owner. I am in the process of replacing the transom. I am planning on keeping the 20" shaft 150 Evinrude. I have read on here where some of you guys have raised your transom 2" to 2 3/4". How does this affect the performance of the boat, by raising the motor? I was also looking at installing a Bob's 10" set back bracket, and raising the transom 4" to 6". Has anyone had any experience with this? Thanks for your help.

I would suggest 25" (+1"-2") and get a Bay Manufacturing spacer for your 150.

In your case Old'sCool advice sounds good. I completed by transom redo last year on my 20’ Seafari with an 20” shaft length ETEC 150 HO. Originally used for ocean trolling, the last 20 years lake use only. I raised the engine .75" and the transom 2” to have more margin for weight in the stern. I kept it at 22” to avoid the cost of the Bay Mfg engine extension and converting to hydraulic steering which you will probably use.

Thanks for the suggestion. I was unaware of the Bay Manufacturing spacer. Now you have given me more to think about.
