Price of 20 CC

I have been looking for a 20 CC for a project. The best deal I have found is $1500 hull and trailer (both need complete re-build). I am curious as to whether this is a good deal. Any input would be appreciated.

I SPENT $4,000 ON A 23’ CENTER CONSOL HULL ONLY. I WAS GLAD TO GET IT AND I HAD TO RE DO EVERYTHING. I GUESS IT ALWAYS COMES DOWN TO “IS IT WORTH IT TO YOU”? MOST GUYS WOULDN’T WANT TO RE DO A BOAT BUT FOR THOSE THAT LIKE THIS KIND OF STUFF IT IS A DIFFERENT STORY. I CAME INTO MY PROJECT THIS WAY WHEN I PUT IN ALL THE TIME SWEET AND MONEY WILL I REALLY, REALLY WANT THE KEEP THE BOAT FOR A VERY LONG TIME OR NOT? AS FOR A 20’ SEACRAFT FOR $1,500 THAT SOUNDS LIKE A GOOD BUY TO ME.

Hmmmm, my friend is buying a 1980 20' i/o that is /has a new motor /outdrive , transom redone with trailer but no t-top or electronics for 8,000. I told him I thought it was a great deal , considering the condition, turn-key.

What year is your hull? Most of the older hulls will need some major work and any that have been restored will command a high price - just check the market and you'll see what I mean. Older hulls restored and new power is the way to go especially if it is a classic SeaCraft. I bought my '71 20ft CC hull and trailer for $1500.00. Hull and deck was structurally sound but the transom was suspect(30 years and who knows how many motors). I put a new Honda 130 on and fished my a** of for 2 years before any restoration was done.

Right now I'm having a shop redo the transom, reengineer the live well and add hydraulic steering. My original goal was to enclose the transom and add a floatation brackett but the cost of extending my shaft etc was cost prohibitive. By the time it's finished I will probably have about have about $1,4000.00 - $1,5000.00 including original cost,motor and transom restoration just to give you an idea. The end result is pretty satisfying and much better than a new generic popout.

1500.00 is a good price for a project boat.

bac doc - could you post some performence #'s for the 130? also, your transom couldnt have been too bad to support all the weight? but im real curious as to top end and with the 130..

Thanks for all the help. I'm not sure of the year, the owner has said 1973 and 1979, basically he doesn't know, he owns several boats (business) and I haven't asked him to find the title yet. I am certain it is mid 70's. Right now it isn't going anywhere and I am researching the cost of the repairs. I originally wanted to replace the deck with a single level deck and put a bracket on. The deck is in pretty good shape and could be restored fairly easily; far and away the path of least resistance is to keep it all original. I am wondering whether I should do the total rebuild and put on a new engine or restore it with original deck and notched transom. The latter would probably not suit my fishing needs as well but I know I could run it a while then sell it. I have another boat and cart blanc use of a very nice offshore boat so another boat is more of a want than a need. Thanks again, I will let you know what happens.

I am new to the site. I have noticed that most of the messages are from owners of the center console boats. i have a 1971 seafari 20 that I have owned for 4 years. Are there many of the cuddy cabins still running out there. Hopefully later this summer I will take some pix of the boat and post them on the site.

Well, you Florida guys have the advantage of being in boating heaven; boats are plentiful and a lot cheaper than up here in the Northeast. Here is a 20 footer classified I saw just yesterday (disclaimer:not my boat or anyone I know..)
