(2) i/o's -----> (1) i/o question
Hello all. I am new to your great site. I have a few questions, and I know I'm in the right place. I am looking to purchase a mid 70's 23' Tsunami w/ (2)4 cyl i/o's. I want to r/r these oldies and repower w/ a single 5.7 litre, bravo package.
How much work is involved in sealing the (2) existing i/o holes ? Will the present motor mounts be usable for the single i/o, and if not what must be done ? If the transom is shot, how hard is it to tear out the old transom and put in a new one ? What is the best method to reduce the oversized hole in the floor, via fiberglass/wood when I reduce the size of the engine cover ? Has anyone done this job, I would be interested in speaking to you. What are some of the weak areas of these boats that I should look into when I survey her myself ? Oh, and lastly - what is the approx cost to do this job ( I plan on doing ALL the work myself ) Thank you - Alan |

Alan-
Welcome aboard. If you haven't bought the boat yet, I would try and shop around for a single I/O Tsunami/Sceptre that you can repower. Regardless, some of the more experienced guys can fill you in on the details of how to make this transformation if you're dead set on doing it. For starters, you'll probably have to re place the transom and modify the floor. You;ll also need to build new motor mounts for the single set up and fill in the old mounts from the dual setup. Also, don't forget about all of the wiring, fuel lines (and maybe some plumbing) that will need to be modified/replaced. Check in later on to see what others say about the complexity of this project. Alan,
Welcome to the board. Although Ed hits the nail on the head, I think Bobfish21 summed it up perfectly for you when you originally posted these questions on 2/20: http://www.classicseacraft.com/cgi-b...c;f=3;t=000147 I think you're in for a long expensive road ahead of you if you're dead set on converting from twins to a single. |

Re: (2) i/o's -----> (1) i/o question
Alan-
Another option for you is to buy a Tsunami/Sceptre that has recently been repowered. This way, you reap the benefits of a good boat with modern, updated power, without having to fork out the big bucks. As we all know so well, boats, motors and trailers depreciate faster than the outgoing tide. Listed below is a link for a Tsunami/Sceptre with new V-6 Mercruiser motors installed in 1999 that is for sale. The boat is located in the Boston area and is for sale for around $13.5k . Sounds like a great deal to me, especially if the engines were maintained by the owners brothers who are "supposedly mercruiser certified". The boat has been for sale for sometime so I would think you could negotiate the price with the broker. http://www.yachtworld.com/listing/yw...USD&units=Feet I think this would be a better and less expensive option for you. Modifying that other dual I/O setup is a lot of work and requires a big bank account. |
