Default What do ya think boys??

I have the opportunity to buy a 1979 23 seacraft with a 2002, 225hp yamaha. Only 70 hrs on engine. 1/2 center console, no T-top or doghouse. Trim tabs, sitex color finder, older loran, cut out transom. The deck is a little "spongee" acording to current owner. I haven't had the chance to get in her yet myself. Always mainted in town here since original owner. The deck wouldn't be a huge issue to me as my old man built his 38 Wesmac (lobster)and is also a carpenter. I would also put in a new tank and T-top. Asking price is $17000. What do you guys think, I mean without me actually seeing the boat for my self yet. All i have done is spoke with the owner. Please help. Thank you

Depending on survey, not a bad price for Mass if you want that engine... That's 4500 for the boat after the Nada Low Retail on the outboard... Sctually pretty good depending on the condition of the boat

Does it come with a trailer? If you have the time/knowledge to do the floor yourself that price seems pretty fair...

Yeah, comes with trailer, not sure of the exact condition of it though. I forgot to ask the owner. Like I said the deck shouldn't be a problem (in theory). We all know how that goes though.

the console only comes about waist high, not a t-top or doghouse style.

Expect to do a bit more than the deck and tank. Once you open her up you can figure to basically strip it down to the stringers. Replacing a probably soggy fuel deck, rework a stringer or two. My 85 was soft in a few spots around the engine bolt holes as well. It then becomes a issue of how much restoration you really want to do. Wiring, paint, new pumps, etc,etc etc. IMO, the price seems a bit high, unless it has been kept up but as you say there may be some flexibility in the price. If you can get away with only the work I described above and then have it ready by the time the Bass return, you'll be in good shape. Dink

Thanks dink, thats about what I figured too. "How deep do I want to get in this thing?" I think I'll keep looking as it doesen't appear to be the boat for me. All though I do want one of these beauties, i guess its best to find the right one. Thanks for the comeback dink. Stripers can't get here soon enough.
