Default 2000 Mercury Optimax 200--any owners?

Given all the replies to teh 21' Seacraft thread I am wondering if anyone is running this model year Optimax? Looking at a used 21' with this engine but I am, how shall I say, very Mercury shy, particularly with respect to the Optimax. I'd appreciate any real world experience from owners.

Jeff

I have a 2000 Opti with my 21 SC both bought new as leftovers in 2001. I have approx. 500 hrs. on it and just this past summer I had the first and only problem with it- one of the ignition coils went and caused it to run very eratically. Since the repair, it once again ran great. I had heard all the horror stories about the earlier Opti's but it really has been totally reliable and good on gas although I have never offically attempted to calculate the actual numbers. The only thing I have done to it other than normal winterizing is replacing the water pump at 300 hours and the standard marina spring start up (lubricating, oil change, etc). Hope this helps.

It does--thanks.

Scott, good luck getting on the dock--I assume there is a waiting list? They still need to reconstruct my dock after it get pretty much totalled in the Hurricane Jeanne storm we had. So nice to see they raised rates again as well.....

Yup, I put my name on the list for both A and B, even though I could care less about having electric. My buddy is on the list too. He's hoping to bring his 21' Hydra-Sports CC over from Marina Bay.
