What do you do to keep your Boat Safe
After hearing of CaptainK's loss and all the boat theft going on down here in S.Fla, I thought it would be a good idea if we all shared what preventive measures we are taking to keep our boats safe. I am sure we can all benefit from it.
The first thing I do is keep my wife's car parked in front of the boat 90% of the time, it's the other 10% that I have to worry about. I also put a heavy duty chain on the fence and one in the trailer tires. I am thinking of putting a couple of red heads into the concrete driveway and anchoring the hull to the them. I am also going to get some pricing on putting a GPS on it.

G fence in front helps, the car in front is a big plus too.
I have a car, a tounge lock, a chain around the tires and there is always someone home to keep an eye on things. The big thing that was happening around my home was the bigger boats with the newer twins were being driven off for motors and parts. But if they want your boat chances are they can find a way to get it |

Re: What do you do to keep your Boat Safe
That's true, about all we can do is make it harder for them so they can skip ours and go after a much easier target! I guess I'm lucky, my boat is guarded by a 24 hour military gate guard at the USAF base where I store her. That plus an entry gate programmable lock and security cameras help deter any would-be thieves. Even then I keep the cabin locked and have a hitch lock installed, just in case!

Re: What do you do to keep your Boat Safe
I'm amazed at the boat & engine theft problem you guys have in Florida. When I was down at the Dania flea market 2 years ago, both Capt Chuck and Mike at Wildfire were telling me stories of how people go about stealing the outboards right of a boat. Mike had a 27-foot HydraSports at his shop that he was replacing the transom on because the thieves cut if off when they stole the motors.

ScottM these are the things your local realtors dont tell you about when they are trying to prusuade you to move on down to S.Fla, there so busy telling you about South Beach and the great night life that they forget to tell you your going to need a dog like Capt.Brads a Smith & Wesson the biggest one you could find, Alarm & camera system, I'm sure you get it, this is the junk that comes along with having great weather year around. Man I just noticed I went off on a mad rage
