boat registration

I was wondering if anyone has registered their boat as a classic in florida. I searched the dmv website and found out that you can reg. as a classic and its cheaper and from what i understand you only register it once. The catch is that it is supposed to have an engine of about the same year. Any of you think that they would check the engine?

thanks for the link. I have the original bill of sale for the boat as well as the original brochures and everything from 1969. will try to register tommorrow as an antique. thanks again.

Mines registered as a antique and They never asked about the engine. No worries

"Piece of cake" easy to do.....you have to do it for the fact my registration for two years on the SeaCraft was less than $13. I'm not going to talk about the other $400 for one car, two boat trailers and a 16' boat registration. The antique vessel registration is a no brainer. THANKS to the other CSC.com folks who turned me on to it!!!!!

Tell me about it...they really bent me over when I received a gift vehicle from out of state last month and had to transfer title to FL including new plate..my numerous trailer plates would not work..at least vehicle is over 5000 lbs so the fee was decreased...I did plead and beg though..but still hurting . Bet we see another increase before the State Gov goes belly up ..Australia or Belize looking better all the time!!!

rgistered it yesterday and cost 7.50. i think if you can register it online at the state site it only costs4.25 . St. lucie county adds another 2.75 wich is f****d up because I use martin county ramps. Anyways once you get the registration you have to send an application to the state to get your antique sticker for your boat.

I'm reviving this thread in case any of the newer ClassicSeacraft owners in Florida don't know about the antique vessel option. I renewed the registration on my 25 Seafari today and it cost me $6.25.

If your boat is at least 30 years old and has the "same type" engine as original, you qualify. The DMV has defined "same type" as an engine of the same vintage, but that's not what the statute says. The statute for antique motor vehicles stipulates a motor at least 30 years old, but the antique vessel statute does not. To me that means that my 25, which is an I/O as original, but with a modern MPI engine, qualifies. The local tag agency took my word for it on the application.

Great idea Dave!!

It does my heart good to write that $12.50 check for two year's worth of registrations. One of the few checks I write to the government where I think I'm getting a great deal.
