Default i hate thieves !

i read this earlier this morning - http://www.thehulltruth.com/boating-...ht-beware.html

we all have to watch out for each other - meaning: if you see someone at the dock,or area where the boat's stored - ask questions ! anytime i see a strange person at my dock,i ask them who they are - every time !

in the course of doing my biz,i pick up boats at the owner's house alot, also pick up boats at the dock - NEVER have i had anyone ask me who i am,and what i was doing - NEVER ! one customer,he locks his yard - due to the fact he has a pool - i have to climb the fence - again,no one has ever asked me what i was doing...i store alot of boats - if i see someone,i ask them exactly what they're doing - my lot has numerous video cameras - and i explain that to them - i also point out the camera on the entrance, the one that will get a clear view of the tag number of the vehicle...i've never had a theft - EVER !

a few years ago,a local marina, where i dock, was hit - alot of electronics were stolen - one owner,a customer,he kept checking ebay and craigs list - he found his stuff on ebay ! the police traced it back, there was a trailer in the picture with a tag on it - that gave alot of info ! his stuff, along with alot more, was recovered !

if you see electronics with missing cables advertised for sale - this should serve as a warning ! if you see something for a "too good to be true price" - there's a reason.the people who buy this stuff, they're equally as guilty as the thief who stole it ! if there was not a market - theft will be less - simple fact !

again, look out for the other guy ! you see something, check it out,or call the police ! it's a karma thing - pay it forward !
think of it like this: that was your boat that was stripped - if someone asking questions could've prevented it,you would be gatefull, right ?

keep your eyes open, ask questions !! don't be scared to write down a tag number,or take a cell phone picture...as the economy gets worse, this is only gonna increase...

I don't hate thieves,I despise them, and my boat has been the target of them twice in the last two years.Because of them,I now have to remove everything from the boat when our trips are done and bring it all home with us,what a major PIA.

I keep my boat at a boat repair yard on the trailer when I'm not there, and slip it when I am.My buddy owns the boatyard, and lives on the property,so his house is close to the boats that are stored there.Even that doesn't stop the dirtbags.
Last fall. my buddy called me and told me that someone tried to steal the kicker(T8 Yammie)on my boat. They had cut the lock off, disconnected the wiring and throttle and shift controls. They had all the mounting bolts except one all removed. They were literally less than a minute from getting the motor.
It was just sh-t luck that they didn't.My buddy didn't see anyone, but thought that he must have unknowingly scared them off when he was opening the store.I was lucky that it was a derby week and he was open at 5 am in the morning.
He took the motor and put it inside his shop for safekeeping until I get there.
Now,because of these dirtbags I have to reinstall it when I get up there in May.I have a 6-1/2 hour drive to get to the boat, the last thing I feel like doing after that is remounting the kicker.

The year before someone broke into the cuddy and grabbed two bags of tackle that we had stored. They got away with at least 100 Rapala and storm stickbaits,a couple hundred spoons.over 100 trolling flies and squids, and misc other stuff.Easily worth a few grand to replace.
I was lucky that they didn't get the rods and reels that were locken in the front deck floor compartment.I'd have to take out another equity loan to replace them.
Unfortunately,I don't live near by,so I have to depend on people that I know to take a look at it occassionally, but that isn't very effective.
I know that some of the other Out of town guys who have boats there caught two thiefs, and beat them pretty bad. That's fine with me.
This kind of stuff is not uncommon where I slip in western NY.you would never think that because it's kind of a quaint area but it doesn't matter. One guy was sleeping on his boat in the marina when he was awakened by thiefs on his boat. They are that bold.

I have no problem with the death penalty, and think it should be ratchetted up and applied to weasels who think they have the right to something you own.I don't buy into the disadvantaged childhood,or bad crowd,or youthful mistake malarky.

I'm looking into an alarm system, and have something just about ready to install this spring.

most of know have cell phones its real easy to take a quick picture of a strange tag . just in case it might be needed. With the cc I built for my 23 I'm making all my electronics removable with the dash panel and a blank panel for storage that way when she's unattended its one less temptation for them

A comination of a few things would be the best way to deter them.

In addition to the 44 MAG this would be a good addition.

Yep. That's one of the reasons I left South Florida.

Floorboy
I may be able to use her for up front ballast,so that my deck scuppers will drain like they should.
The problem is how do I get her into the cabin? Maybe if we spray her with some silicone,or olive oil we could squeeze her in.Gettin her out is a whole different story.
