I cant imagine that a flaw that small would make any difference in performance. Can it?
Its hard to tell from the image but it looks like 3/32" to nothing cupped section in a 20" span,. |

We do know that applying just "a little bit of trim tab" makes a boat tilt left or right, and that the pressure of water drag increases as speed increases. So........to what affect the hook ? Perhaps a marine engineer with experience can answer more specifically, while I'll just figure it will have at least some affect, perhaps including fuel economy. Next part of the issue might be how to best fill in the gap with easiest / permanent solution. |

The extra 20 gallons or 140 lbs of weight is forward which I suspect was to improve CG, balance, and ride. The glass work on my 89 20 is also surprisingly good, but lighter than Potter builds. Hull shape can also be adversely affected by age/rot and trailer set up. Bunks which fall short of the transom or too few rollers can do the same thing. Many BW foam sandwich hulls look like the moon because of this. |

I spoke to the owner of that Sceptre I looked at, told him about the hook, and asked him if he'd ever noticed a tendency to heal to stbd at high speed, but he claimed he had never noticed any unusual handling characteristics, so it evidently wasn't enough of a hook for the average guy to notice. Of course the average boater doesn't seem to even know how to properly use trim tabs, so I'm not too surprised by that answer!

Yep mine did have the longer gas tank but it wasn't too get bad to get out of there, pulled it out with my tractor. When I had the new tank made I had them shorten it up by a foot and will shove it all the way forward when I finally get around to finishing the poor neglected thing

In retrospect the hook could be filled in pretty short order with a few layers of glass. I like my Potter but wouldn't think twice about buying an SCI if it can down to it, hook or not.

I can't figure why this hull hasn't been duplicated in an updated version for the hard core fisherman who likes a buddy boat ( like me for example). My current boat's a beautiful 1996 Wellcraft V21 with Etec 200HO and trim tabs. I fish mostly the ocean and it's fine for how I use it. Lots of deck space for the size, curtains to stay warm and dry up here in NJ etc....I see the original Carl Moesly 21' as the much bigger brother. Similar concept, but specifically built for the " more brutal conditions." I'd gladly pay $ 50 for a demo ride if someone's got one up here in the NorthEast !! |
