Helm and bolster refresh
Upgrading electronics, don’t want to re-glass the console area. What are people doing, Starboard, Other?
Also, have bolsters on port and starboard gunnel aft that need replacing, can I purchase replacements or should I find a custom shop to re-upholster? Thanks, Oliver |

I ordered the materials and recovered my bolsters. I also used white starboard and hated it. Really wish I had finished it in glass/paint.

That’s helpful! Starboard is probably my last option but it’s still an option as I can’t see myself re-glassing.

Go Gucci
Teak overlay. You can't seal starboard properly.

Teak…only way to go.
About 3/8” or so. No thinner than 1/4” no thicker than 1/2” but that’s my opinion. As far as bolsters. You can buy seadek. Or I’m having my wife who’s a serious sewer make me some. Sailrite.com has plenty vids on this. You guessed it, I’m toying with putting a strip of teak in it as decoration. I like how Monterey boats does their bolsters and upholstery on the 305ss etc. White and gray with flat and diamonds. Looks classic with a modern twist to me. |

I used a plastic material that I got from our sign shop at work, they make letters out of it. It’s a quarter inch thick and it’s very light weight almost like a foam board but denser. It cuts with a utility knife. I had enough original glass on my dash to support it and be able to get enough of the mounting bolts for the displays through bolted to support them. I used 3M heavy duty mounting tape to fasten it to the dash, no visible fasteners and that stuff will never let loose.

You can also use ABS plastic for your helm area. There is a company called Decorative Plastics that sells it and it comes in burl, carbon fiber, plain etc. I think it was about $48 for a sheet.

I've used black Plexiglass in the past.

Bolsters in teak
I liked the look of my original white vinyl bolsters, but got tired of cleaning them and as they were drying out and cracking, replaced them with teak more than 35 years ago. With that change all my vinyl (cushions) snaps off and is stored in the cabin. Applied Cetol Siskins to the teak, about 16 years ago, which has stayed nice (admittedly stored under roof since then),
