Hello Guys-
I am shopping for a new outboard, unfortunately . And I am wondering if anyone has thoughts on whether a left handed prop and drive (designed for twin use) would be any less up to the task when used as a single. Yamaha has stopped making their 225 EFI 2 stroke, but there is a dealer in FLA who has some left hand drives in stock. I have heard that these sometimes may be softer than their right hand counterparts. Any input would be super. And while I am on it, does anyone have any experience with the new Ficht engines by Bombardier yet. I hear good things about them... Would anyone be uncomfortable buying one now? Yami or 'Rude????? Thanks, Hooper |

I ALSO WAS GIVEN THE SAME STORY AS YOU ABOUT YAMAHA BUT THEN I WAS TOLD BY SOME GOOD SOURCES THAT YAMAHA HAS NOT STOPPED MAKING THE RIGHT HANDERS IT IS THAT BECAUSE OF OMC/BOMBARDIER PROBLEMS LAST YEAR THEY SOLD OUT OF THEIR RUN OF RIGHT HANDERS AND UNTIL THEY DO ANOTHER RUN THEY ARE TEMPORALITY OUT OF STOCK. AS FOR WHICH IS BETTER I REALLY DON’T THINK EITHER RIGHT OR LEFT MAKES ANY DIFFERENCE OTHER THAT THE OWNER’S PREFERENCE. FOR ME I AM SO USE TO A SINGLE SCREW RIGHT HAND PROP RESPONSE I DIDN’T WANT TO SWITCH. I THOUGH THAT WHEN I GET TO THE DOCK AND HIT REVERSE I DIDN’T WANT TO THINK OF HOW THE BOW WAS GOING TO RESPOND. AS FAR AS BOMBARDIER GOES THEY STARTED MAKING THEIR NEW MOTORS IN THEIR NEW PLANT AS OF 2/02. I CONSIDERED THEM WHEN I BOUGHT THE YAMAHA BUT BECAUSE I DIDN’T WANT TO INVEST $12,000 ON A CO THAT JUST BOUGHT OME OUT BECAUSE OF A MOTOR THAT BREAKS AND THEM JUST STARTED MAKING THEM A FEW MONTHS EARLIER IT DIDN’T SOUND VERY SAFE TO ME. LET SOME ONE ELSE TAKE THE CHANCES WITH THEIR $12,000 OR SELL THEM FOR $9,000 AND GIVE A 5 YEAR WARRANTEE. FELLOW-SHIP |

Right or left hand doesn't matter. Go with the Yamaha.

I have a 76 sf 23 seacraft with a 2001 225hp ficht with around 400 hrs. Great engine no problems. Also have a friend with a 2002 250hp ficht on 23 seacraft with 300+ hrs. He hasn't had any problems either. You shouldn't be afraid of the new rudes. But it doesn't matter what manufacturer you get, you still need to have to trust in the product and a good mechanic. Undoubtedly things will break and if you don't have the service backing then your belief will be the engine is an inferior product.

I'm gonna throw it out there...has anyone heard or experienced the assumption that Mariners, Evinrudes, Johnson entire components are all made up of yami parts? I have a very reliable mechanic who focuses on yami's but works on other engines who passed this tidbit along. Comments welcome...

I WAS JUST ON THE YAMAHA WEB SITE AND SEE AS OF 2003 THEY ARE NOT MAKING A OX 66 IN 225 HP THE LARGEST IN THE OX 66 SERIES WILL BE A 200 HP. IT SEEMS THAT THE 225 FOR THIS YEAR WILL BE THE 4 STROKES AND HPDI WILL BE THE 200 AND THE NEW 250’S THE INFO I TOLD YOU WAS A FEW MONTHS AGO IN MAY WHEN I BOUGHT MINE. IT LOOKS LIKE FOR THE FUTURE IN THE 225 CLASS WE WILL SEE 4 STROKES AND HDPI’S THAT HAVE NOT COME OUT YET. FELLOW-SHIP |

Hi Fellowship-
Thanks for the addn'l info, I have learned the same in my hunt for a new engine. I have looked high and low and at everything out there now. For what I need, a 2 stroke, efi, 225hp...I think the Evinrudes are the best out there now. For the money I think they are tough to beat. The now offer a three year warranty standard too. I can't buy another Merc, I just can't as i don't think the Opti's are perfected yet, and I don't know enough about the Suzi's to go and get one. 'Rude is the choice. It goes on soon, I should be back in the water by Wednesday, I hope. I can still save October! Thanks fellowship! Go Patriots |

I THINK EVINRUDES WILL REGAIN THEIR PLACE OF DEPENDABILITY AND TRUST WITH THE PUBLIC FOR THEIR OUTBOARD MOTORS AS TIME GOES ON, FOR THE SHORT RUN I HAVE MY CONCERNS. THEIR 3 YEAR WARRANTY DOES HELP REGAIN THE TRUST BY THEM SAYING WE BELIEVE THEY ARE GOOD AND IF NOT WE WILL FIX THEM. JUST MY THOUGHTS FELLOW-SHIP |

Engine is going on today, thank heaven. I have been going through severe withdrawls over the past few weeks! I hope to come down with a serious illness later this week, hate to disappoint work tho, but I need to say farewell to the fish....
