Lenco trolling tabs

Finster,My brother in law has a new Grady White 22' center console. He does a great deal of early morning fly fishing around the islands by our marina. This past summer he had the lenco trolling tabs installed. The tabs speak for themselves and the electric motors are wonderful. He had to install a 3rd battery just for the motors which is the primary and 1 of the 2 engine batteries is the secondary. he installed a solar cell on the t-top for charging purposes for the primary battery. If you do a lot of manuvering of the boat you can drain the primary as well as the secondary but you start the engine to recharge #2 and the cell takes care of #1. You can get a larger cell for qiucker charges. There are many factors involved but he said it was a great buy because he loves fly fishing in those shallow rocky areas. With the remote control you stand on the casting platform and you can see fine. I hope this long winded story helps.

Some guy brought in his flat's boat to the shop and it had the trolling tabs on it. Not sure if they were Lenco's , but he said that they really sucked a lot of juice from the batteries.

I think it is a good solution but wonder how effective they are. I'd really like to take my Mako 231 in tight along the rocks and ledges, but like the rest of you, I'm too worried about hitting something and ruining her. Fiberglass and rocks don't mix. I'd like to find an old 15-16 aluminium with a 15hp outboard and use that for fishing along the rocks and in super shallow water.

Catman, that's great, just what I was looking to hear. The way I fish I could use'em every time I go out. I figured I would put 2 more batteries in just for it. I like have two engine batteries fresh, but that's another story (has to do with fishing in breakers at night that got a little hairy).

Hey, anybody try those lenco trolling tabs? Looks interesting. I haven't heard anything or seen them in action. Wondering if anyone else has?

Seriously, on a 20 Center Console, go with regular tabs and put a bow mounted trolling motor on it. Much better manueverability and you get to see the ledges you're weaving thru. I only with they made saltwater trolling motors big enough for a 23 [img]images/icons/grin.gif[/img] [img]images/icons/shocked.gif[/img]

Yeh, about 1500 clams. But for me I could kill two birds with one stone. I've looked into a bow mount and that would be a pain in the butt on my boat. And they say that trolling tab packs 165 lbs. of thrust [img]images/icons/shocked.gif[/img] [img]images/icons/shocked.gif[/img] [img]images/icons/shocked.gif[/img]
I'd like to hear from someone that has experence with'em first before I spend dough like that.
