Abe,

I like the Bose 151 and 131 environmental speakers. I have learned that if the speakers are not out of the wind and directly in your face, they have little value underway.

I will be installing the 3.5" dia. Polyplanner waterproof speakers directly in the console with the guages facing right at me.

A nice 200 watt amp never hurt anybody...

many stores have a row of different ones that you can listen to and see which ones sound the best within the price bracket that you wish to spend in. If you've got the space and the checkbook, Bose are hard (impossible?) to beat. I've had Jensen (a bit tinny) and recently bought Polyplanar, which I thought sounded a bit better than the Jensen's. I would like to have gone with the Bose but didn't have space.

Just be careful to place them where they will not affect your compass. The console on a 20 does not leave much room, which is why I had to remove the speakers from my boat when I got it.

Just like Roger says .... But they sell "magnetically shielded" (Jensen) or "premium series low magnetic field " (Polyplaner) speakers to help cut down on interference ...I don’t know how much they help.. I would listen to them to make sure they isn’t a great decline in the speakers performance due to the magnet change ( speaker sound quality is rough at best on a boat .... no less an open boat )

Yes …. I’m also looking to replace some speakers ….and need to fit in a five inch cutout (the old cut out clearance)

You know during the summer up here that would be a good thing ..to find some uninhabited fishing grounds...due to speaker compass navigation…… but getting back to the inlet might be a bit challenging

Mark ....How do you like the poly's .... or have you not had a chance to try them out?? ....what did you get ??

thanks for the feedback, i have bose in the house (pawnshop score,) so i'll probably be just a happy with them on the boat. does everyone mount there speakers in the console? i was thinking of putting them in the bow so everyone can enjoy the muzak.

question about an amp? do you need a marine specific amp or can i use the 60 watt alpine thats in my basement.

Scott,

I've not tried them out yet but the demo's at the store sounded a very close second to the Bose, which I didn't have room for (the back end of the Bose speakers would have taken up way too much space inside my console).

I bought the Polyplanar MA6600's to go with the Polyplanar MRD60 stereo. I plan on leaving the fishing gear at home and taking a butterfly net to pick the fish off the surface that have blown ear drums

That’s an awesome little system you've got going !!! I’ve had my eye... or should I say ear ... on that unit

Abe ...They did a segment about this on Shipshape TV..

Personally just don’t expect it to last to long in the marine environment ..especial depending on location..open boats are tough. Some say its cheaper to buy car stereo stuff and replace when it goes bad as the "marine" versions seem not to last that much longer and cost a whole lot more.... the "marinized" versions ...same as the car model but they plastic coat "this or that" to try to make it "corrosion proof"

However some of the companies ....Like the stereo Mark has .... have built the head units/components from the ground up .... intending their use in the marine environment ....similar to how a marine VHF GPS etc is built
