Default Termites????

What I previously thought to be a solid transom may now have a few voids in it. Found a few termites crawling out through the stern light. Anyone have any experience with this? Can I just have the boat tented like a house or will I have chemical reactions with rubber, oil, fuel, etc.? Help!!

TERMITES !!!!!

Forget the tent .... that sounds like a definite transom restore.

You have no way of telling what the integrity of that wood is .....
I'm not an Entomologist but I dont think termites are fond of saltwater ... if thats the case that would mean (if the transom is wet) that it is most likely freshwater and that would = ROT on top of your other problem

Wet is one thing ....Termites ...YIKES

TENT Your HOUSE ! If their in Your Boat chances are They have moved from Your House or ?
Put Your boat by the House & do both of them at once. Some places can tent Your boat only.Depending on the House sometimes the charge isn't much diff.I'm just worried they'll start liking Foam . or BEER !!!!!!!!!!

Thankfully the boat is kept nowhere near the house so I don't think thats the source. Guess I need a special trip just for the boat though.

Scott, I hear your point although its not in the cards this season. Also, my observations & a fairly recent survey (a SeaCraft owner as well) lead me to believe the transom is in fairly good shape.

-although I've never tried it, I hear they are pretty tasty if dipped in chocolate. Could be the beginning of the "tasty transom treat" theory

Sorry to hear of your Termite problem that would have been a Budweiser moment for me. I would say a new transom job is in order as well. I wouldn’t want to trust my life and the lives of others in my boat on the integrity of that transom one more trip. It’s always better to be safe than sorry on boats. Here is South Florida there are news reports all the time of someone that didn’t do something or failed to check something and a boating accident happened.
