I am bidding on it but cannot see me getting it - its in MA - looking for truck rates now

Got a quote for USD 1800 from Florida to VCR!!

They guy is great who I deal with and specialises in boat transport - he has a network of truckers all over the place.

He is based in Vancouver (temporarily - lives in Florida) Jim (604) 507 7752 don't have his email but from the deal I have from him I am sure he can do better than the quotes I have seen on eastcoast moves.

Depending on how high the price tag goes, this would seem to be the ideal opportunity for those in the northeast who are looking for a 20CC but don't relish the thought of pulling it back from Florida. Looks pretty clean from the sideways photos.

Mark I bought a boat Sat or I woulod have bid on the one on e-bay Falmouth is only 45mins from my house. Ebeach put me on to a good boat in RI and I bought it without hesitation or you wuold have had another serious bidder on your hands. I'm still watching it just to see what it goes for.

Mark I bought a boat that EBeach told me about. After I bought it I asked the sales guy why they didn't advertise it and he said Oh I put it in the boat trader yesterday. Man that was close.The only boats that I found needed serious repair or where already refurbed and top dollar. This is a good middle of the road boat. Good solid boat floors and transom solid, a 98 Merc Offshore 115 and tandem axle trailer for $7700 I'm just waiting for the owner to get the title to the marina and I will go down and tow it home. Only a two+ hour ride so its pretty close. Boat needs general TLC like most but its a good solid boat to start from. I'll post more when I get it in the yard. swstandring, does the guy think it's a classic boat or does he think it's an old used boat that runs?

Funny how some people think they're boat is worth so much (in the Northeast that is).

Both really. He knows it's an old classic hull that would make a great restoration project. BUT he also recognizes that it is an old boat no matter what and it is going to take some work to keep the old girl running. I don't think he has an exaggerated opinion of what it's worth.

I am considering whether or not to get into the bidding for this boat. I have talked to the owner a couple of times in am attempt to be able to have a look at the boat myself before bidding. The owner is from Brooklyn NY and seems like a very nice guy as he has answered my questions very well, in fact it almost seemed like he was trying to talk me out of it as he was so honest.

A couple of thoughts on this boat.

1. The owner admitted that he made a mistake in putting it up for bid before having it in a place where people can have a look at it. As of Sunday it was in a locked storeyard and he had not gotten in touch with the place to have it hauled out for public viewing. I personaly am VERY hesitant to make any type of an offer on a boat without at least having a good look at it myself, I'd prefer the time for a complete survey and seatrial as I am very new to boating and don't want to get stuck with a lemon. I may head down there Friday morning to have a look if it is out for viewing. So if you are looking to have a good look at the boat before hand, that's probably not going to happen. There's no assurance that it even floats.

2. He uses the boat for two weeks a year and he admitted to me that twice in the last few years he's needed to be towed back to dock due to motor failure. I'm no mechanic but that's not a very good reliability record. Whoever gets the boat will probably be looking at an immediate repower. (=$$$$)

3. He kinda let it slip as to what he wants to get for the boat (his reserve) and the price is going to have to go up a bit before he'd sell it...and no I'm not helping you guys out on this one as I still might bid for it!!!

I wish that the guy did not put the boat on EBAY and advertised it locally so that there is not rush to judgement on whether or not to buy, if I was able to have a good look at it myself as well as hire a surveyer to to a complete pre-purchase survey and seatrial on it I would be VERY interested in this boat. And sould be willing to pay above what I'm guessing his reserve is. Besides, red's cool! [img]images/icons/confused.gif[/img]

I hear what you are saying - but, let's face it, the boat is over 20 years old, the engine needs be thrown out and more than likely the transom will need some work.

A surveyor will tell you the same thing - the boat will need work and depending on the reserve price it will probably go to a buyer "in the know" about Seacrafts who will expect to put in additional funds to get the boat up to spec.

I would be surprised if the stringers are gone given the amount of use the owner claims but given the number of entries on this site about transoms - it is a fair bet to say the transom will need work.

I am no longer bidding on the boat but would have bought it subject to the price and would have been prepared to immediately a) redo the transom b) check the hull seals (both at deck / floor and and any thru hulls) and redo them if needed c) replace the rub rail d) repaint the hull and possibly the interior e) T-top the boat f)possibly replace the center console g) replace the fuel tank h) repower.

My reasoning for the following are in order are:

piece of mind when offshore
piece of mind that the boat will last
peice of mind it looks good and something I could be proud of showing on classicseacraft.com!

A 20 year old boat is a 20 year old boat - that is the reality and it will need some work.

Again - depending on the price - this one sounds like almost the perfect quasi project boat - i.e. a boat that is structurally sound and needs minor (under USD 5000) upgrades and repairs to the structure and new power.)

If you are not overly familiar with boats and what can be expected to go wrong - then definitely get a survey - it will save you lots of head and heartache later on in life.

I agree with your thoughts exactly on the boat. My purpose in posting about this boat wasn't to talk anyone into or out of bidding for it, just passing on what I was told by the owner as well as airing some thoughts and concerns I have about it. Hopefully he has it out in a viewable area so that I can have a look at it before the bidding ends. I'm heading to Buffalo on Friday afternoon for the Pats-Bills game (Go Pats, uhhh I mean go Bledsoe...uhh, wow who am I going to cheer for? This is almost as bad as when Bourque got traded to Colorado!!!), so the only chance I will have to take a look is early Friday morning. I'm going to call him tonight. I'm kinda hoping that no one meets his reserve and at that point I can contact him and possibly buy it after having it surveyed.

What does a new transom cost anyways?

What are you looking at to to ship a boat from NE to Vancouver? It's like $1500-$2000 for a Florida-NE trip.
