ATTN. ALL SEACRAFT 23 Owners!!!!!!
Hey Guys,
Looking for some input, I've got a 1985 23', that I am repowering, The question is one motor or twins, What do you think of the weight difference? Sits to low with twins? What is the average cruise speed with 225HP-250HP, or twin 150's. Yamaha vs. Mercury, or perhaps Suzuki? All pros, cons, wanted, please help me with as much input as you can give. Thanks Kev |

I have a 23 cc with a 225 Yamaha on the transom and love it that way. I personally think that unless you go with a flotation bracket 2 motors on the 23 is to much weight and with the motors made as well as they are now a days plus sea tow it doesn’t make sense to me. My boat runs about 25 to 30 mpr at 3800 to 4000 rpm’s I usually don’t run it any faster that that but it will go up into 40 something at 5500. It is cheep on gas and with gas going up in price unless I had a 27 to 30 footer I wouldn’t want the second motor. FellowShip [img]/images/graemlins/smirk.gif[/img] |

Dito on the single unless your going with a double wide bracket. (Generaider's 23' with twin 135hp and a double Potter Bracket is awesome [img]/images/graemlins/ooo.gif[/img]) I'm enclosing my transom this year with a Potter Bracket and plan on remounting my single 250hp on it. [img]/images/graemlins/cool.gif[/img] I don't need the double trouble and maintance and fuel costs. I've made the trip to Walker's Cay from West Palm Beach (105 miles) a dozen times or more and cross the state trip also. I cruise at 4200 rpm approx 31mph and WOT 5800 approx 45 - 47 mph. Kev, I am also preparing to repower my '85 23CC with either a single Suz 250 4 stroke or twin Suz 140 4 strokes on an Armstrong bracket. Leaning towards the twins as the total cost is only $2500-3000 more. My concern is the added weight in the stern and will the scuppers still be effective when the boat sits still. Looking forward to some input from other owners.

Like Fellowship said twins, deffinetely floatation bracket,if installed right you should'nt have a problem with the weight and the scuppers.

On my 23 with the Potter bracket, twin 135 Rudes, 100 gals fuel, the water line is about 2" from the chine. I can stand on the platform and stay dry even at 300 lbs. [img]/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img]
Plus the boat flies 40 knots WOT. I believe there were some tests done on the site where twins burn less fuel and trust me 135s were more than enuf!! One member is running 115s Suzis and he has been happy. I didn't go with the metal brackets cuz mine is staying in the water and Potter's bracket is completely enclosed floatation so you don't rely on a 2" strip to keep water out. I now have the room of a 25. It was more money but worth it to me. I posted some pics in the classicseacraft folder in boatzone. Bill decisions, decisions |

I have an '83 SC center console with a notched transom. I repowered with a 2003 Evinrude 225 and it has been great for me. I would also agree with these guys who say twins on a notched are too much. I would definately shy away from that idea unless you opt for the Hermco flotaion bracket which looks to be a great set up. At 4100- 4200 rpmsI get 24-25kts which keeps me happy and is really good on fuel. If you haven't looked at the 'rudes, maybe give them a look.
