BigShrimpin-
Personally, I would take them off....but that is your call. On another note, do they affect the performance of the ride especially in the big, following seas that are so common in your new home? I would think that if you were coming home in a following sea and were surfing down the front of a wave and those spray rails dug in ...it would cause the boat to list to one side, which would be scary. I know that out in Northern California...the hardcore fisherman don't like deep vee hulls for that same reason....they prefer a modified vee hull with soft edges. To see what I am referring to....go take a look at Don Radon's website....he build custom "RADON" style fishing boats and is the equivalent of Bill Potter in regards to West Coast fishing boats. He is also a great guy and super friendly. |

Hey guys, I didnt see the chatter about the spray rails until today. I dragged the boat down to Hampton Bays two weeks ago and I was all set to tow the boat to the Jazz Fest this year too. Thats ok cause the fluke bite has been hot in Shinnecock. I also have developed a deep hatred towards those tasty Triggerfish which have been kicking my butt in the inlet. My spray rails are cedar and hence quite soft so I'm touching them up here and there throughout the season. Originally I think they were Awl Grip. I used to use a red two part epoxy that I got from work but now just lay on a thick coat of Rustoleum Enamel. Put a Kodiak 27 gal livewell up front piped to my baitmaster pump. Just to be sure I threw in two SeaGell marine batteries. Not to mention the new thru hull/ seacock, bilge pumps, hydraulic steering, Raytheon digital fishfinder... love that boat! We should try to get together in Sept for sure.
