72 Seacraft center console floor repair?
I have a question to all Seacraft nation and that is I inheirited my dads seacraft it has seen little ocean water over the years and what I mean is maybe on an average
of 8 saturdays a summer fishing and the last 5 years stored it was only moored for 2 years since 1972 other than that always trailered. The floor has spider cracks and are lifting up in areas. The transom seems solid there is no cracks or flex and the hull has never been damaged or cracked.I know you guys talk alot about stringers there again somebody who knows would have to check. I would like to get the floor repaired this fall and maybe you guys could recommend somebody who has done one?I live in the southeastern Mass area.I am new to the site and look forward to hearing your comments. |

Re: 72 Seacraft center console floor repair?
welcome, the first thing to do if you are thinking about restoring, but you dont really know a whole lot(like me) would be to have a surveyor or someone check it out. If you just want to use the boat as is you should probably check the fuel system lines tank etc. look for rot around the transom, there is a way to see if your transom is still strong by putting pressure on the lower unit up and down while you look for flex on the back of the transom. the other guys who actually know what to tell you will be around soon. Tell us more about your SC, and we always love to see pictures.

Re: 72 Seacraft center console floor repair?
Thanks Ryan,This boat has the gas tank under the front seat
of the console and it has been replaced a couple of years ago.I believe it holds 42 gallons. There are no cracks on top or around the transom. The console is original, windshield and all.The screws at the bottom are falling out but over all its in good shape. This boat has a 115 johnson on it.The boat was not beat on.This model has the high bow rail and the bench seat.I am capable of removing the console and preparing the boat for a glass man to do the work.I was hoping to find somebody who moonlights to do the work. This floor has got a little flex in it and the spider cracks are lifting up in a couple of spots. Also I might add probably 10 years ago my dad had the floor in front of the console replaced and that now has flex to it.This had to be done because water got through the cover and froze in the winter. |

Durf,
I live close to the cape, and I swing down thru bridgewater on a daily basis coming home from work. I have completely gutted and am slowly rebuilding my 1972 23'. Let me know, If you want I could swing by some evening next week. Rich

He'll probably explain everything to you, but he cut his teeth doing glass work up in Newburyport at a buddy's shop, then did some work on cSickNick's 20' Seafari on this site. He's a Mako owner so watch out for him. |

Re: 72 Seacraft center console floor repair?
mdurfeeh-
I received your pics but kept getting error messages when I tried to respond to your email. The long & short of it is that I will need to see boat in person. Can't judge how bad the floor is by pictures. It could be a small spot that needs to be fixed or the entire floor could be saturated. Send me another email with your phone number and we can talk about it. Ed |
