Advise on buying 1987 Seacraft 23' hull.

I'm looking for a 23' that's in need of repower (outboard). Having just discovered this web site I'd like any input available. I recently came across a 1978 23' that had sunk on it's mooring 3 years ago and has been sitting on a trailer outside/uncovered since. Trailer in average shape.T-Top.No motor. The exterior looked good and the floor appeared pretty solid. NADA Guide has it valued at $3700. Owner's asking $10,000, but immediately dropped to $8500. What is a fair price for the hull/trailer? And having previously owned a very nice 1973 SeaCraft 20, but with a piece of junk motor I want a brand new outboard when I find a 23'. Do any of the four strokes work good with the 23'? The hull in question is located in the northeast. Thank you.

I spent $4,000 for a hull only 23 about 4 years ago. No motor, t-top no leaning post. No nothing plus it needed new tank, floor, cap re done, and transom re done. I thought I got a good deal but I am predigest about SeaCrafts. A used trailer is worth 1 or 2 grand depending on how good it is. T-top worth maybe 500 to 750 used and on and on and on. Personally, I do want to consider price, but price was not the king on my list of considerations when I bought or finished 1 ½ years later and 150 days of hard working fixing it up and $32,000 that I put into the project. It is unrealistic to think this is a economical profitable decision but it was a very profitable decision for me as a person to buy, fix up, and use every weekend “MY DREAM BOAT”.

Welcome to the site. I purchased a '85 23' CC last winter that had also sunk. Paid 5K. I've replaced/ rebuilt everything from the stringers up, except for the T Top, which now has been stripped and powder coated and transom, which I will do in a year or two. I'm into the boat for about $20 K so far, not counting the electronics, which I'm in the process of buying. The price you have stated is too high in my opinion, since you to will have to replace everything I've metioned above, as well. I'm thinking the 4-6K range depending on the condition of the bottom and outside gel coat. Good Luck

sounds a little high! with all that would need to be repaired due to sinking.all wiring would need to be replaced,fuel system,all electrical components,etc. how's transom and overall condition? weigh these things out and if you decide that you really want it than make the deal.it's only money right???

I have an 87 23' CC hull that I bought in 2001 for $3k. It was sunk by its previous owner in a hurricane. $17k later it's an awesome boat with a 225 EFI Merc I got off a pro fisherman who was sponsored by Merc. 90 hrs on the motor and a $6k discount! This is here in Va., I really don't know how the prices stack up with the NE.

I paid 8k for an 89 23CC with running 200 Yamaha, 98 trailer. Since deposited another 15k plus extensive labor and she's not done yet.
