Fore deck access on a tsunami

My 1973 Tsunami has had the windshield welded shut and the entryway to the cabin partially screwed in place so that I can't access the bow any longer. My original plan is to add a hatch in the cabin to access the bow but before I do, I'd like some decent photos of how the original layout worked. If any one has them can you send some good close ups of this area please? Also, the hardware for opening the vent windows is broken. It's cracked because it's too large and is hitting the windscreen supports. Can you also provide pictures of the proper hardware for this spot? Actually, if any one has a source for these also, I'd appreciate it. Thanks again everyone. I promise more pics once the winter cover comes off. Unfortunately I think I'm going to have to ruing the nice awlgrip job on the bottom in order to put anti-fouling paint on and I also have some plans for the cabin which is a bit rough at this point. The cockpit work will wait until I get some use with the boat and see exactly how I want things. By the way, anyway know where the stern/anchor light is on this thing. I can't find one anywhere which has me considering one of the LED pop ups from BOE. They're spendy but I can't stand those plug in poles. They just don't seem to last too long for me.

Stern light - if it is an i/o - like mine it should be mounted through the transom.

As for the window parts. Contact Mike Avery at American Marine - email: mavery@americanmarine.com - they are the OEM for the original SC windshield parts. I bought everything from him. He knows his stuff!

I would not cut through the fore deck to gain access if I were you. You would be opening up a can of worms i.e. structural integrity compromised, weather-proofing difficulties. Besides getting in or out will be a really tight squeeze if you do that. You should look into unwelding the window, or replacing what you need to get it to work properly. The design for foredeck access is not great, i.e. hinged horizontal hatch, but it works well enough. So, try not to re-invent the wheel- even though it seems like you can. Sounds like someone already did a butcher job - nothing worse than compounding it.

As for the helm and passenger windows, I bought all the stuff to replace my worn, beat-up anodized aluminum from American. I also upgraded the window turns ( to hold the windows and the center window in locked in place ) to a newer design that American has and it was totally worth the effort. The OEM designed turns stink. The upgrade design is a handle that works awesome.

I have no pictures of this spot in my boat, just the ones in my mind.

as far as the stern light goes...it's an o/b on a bracket...there's no light on the transom. Obviously, the transom was redone at some point. I think when it was they may have moved the light to the radar arch which has since been removed. I'd love to put it in the stock place in the transom but the O/B would block it. I'm going to have to figure something else out.

On my father's '82 Sceptre OB, the stern light is in the starboard corner just forward of the storage box.

Too bad you don't have a Radar Arch or T-Top. In order to meet CG regs your stern light needs to be visable 360* when anchored and running. The white lights needs to be placed at least 3' above the your red and green lights.

Thus mounting on the transom can be quite annoying to your night vision [img]/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img]

Powerboats-Separate or combination red and green sidelights, 112.5°, visible 1 n.m., placed above hull at least 1 meter (3.3') below masthead light. Masthead: white, 225°, visible 2 n.m., at least 1 meter above side lights. White stern light, 135°, visible 2 n.m. OR, one all-round (360°) white light (should also have sidelights).

Capt. Chuck, we plan to add a hard top but not until after this summer. I want to get some time in the boat to figure out exactly how we want it before we install one. I'm thinking about limiting my boating to daylight hours this season and relying on a battery operated unit on board for potential emergencies until then.

Jim, if you could send pics of your windshield, both installed and removed I think it'd be really helpful. I'd appreciate it. I'd also love pictures of how the hatch down in to the cockpit/stairs up through the walkthrough windshield works if it's not too much trouble. If I can, I'm going to try and get some pictures of how mine is today if I can get them to come out under the tarp. Thanks again for all the advice every one...keep it coming.
