Default Propeller size

Hi Folks;
I have a 1988 Seacraft 23cc. I just replaced my old Mercury with a new Evinrude E-tec 200.
I need a feedback on propeller size. I called Evinrude, they told me to call Seacraft. I called Seacraft, they do not have records on prop size going back to 1988.
I bought a prop from Evinrude, a 15"x15", and it seems to be high on RPM, but low on speed. Should I get a 15"x17", or a 15"x19". I run my boat usually with a full tank, and 2-3 fellow fishermen.
Thanx,
Al

Do you have the 200 H.O. motor?

When you say high on the RPM . . . is the motor turning above the recommended 5800 RPM limit?

Are you running a aluminum or a SS prop ? Big difference between the two. I was running a SS 14 3/4 x 19 many years ago on a 200hp Johnson on my 23'. I was hitting around 5500 at WOT. When I repowered to a 250hp Johnson I switched to a 14 3/4 x 17 Viper SS. I am now using the same prop on my 250hp Johnson mounted on the bracket . I'm topping out at 5800-5900 WOT.

Sometimes your repair shop will lend you different props to try out before you purchase

BTW: Many of your questions can be answered by using the SEARCH function and looking back on tons of reading .......Enjoy

I am using for now an aluminum prop, but I will do as you mentioned. I will contact a prop shop for some loaners.
Thanx,

Bluewater-

I have a 1983 23' SC CC with a 2003 Evinrude 225hp. I have a 14.75 x 19 stainless three bladed Viper on there now. I tuurn up about 5600 and get 34 kts WOT and 4500 gets me about 27 kts. I am disappointed with this.....

I want to go to a 17" four blade Renegade stainless as I have read this is the idea prop for this engine with boats our size.

I would look into that one.

Hooper...
Thanx for that advice, I heard that a 17" pitch would be the best one.

I could be wrong but I would think that you would need a 250 HP motor to hit 50 MPH with a 23 footer.

OMC has a new prop out and I believe its called the Renengade, they are supposed to really excel in the mid range cruise area, I would check them out.
