There is no offical culprit. The scuppers don't feel as though they are any noticable cracks. There was a lot of weight in the rear. Perhaps the stern somehow got caught underneath the dock. Still trying to figure it out.

I am sorry to here that you are forced to let her go But Time is a major factor in restoring her to her past glory. Also sorry that all those great memories you must have built up with friends and family on your 23CC will not continue in the future. But with another boat new memories will be built. I am sure someone else with lots of time on their hands will build her back plus provide some great experiences for them as well. We all must face that fact that there is a beginning and end in everything here on earth. As for a new rig this is probably a great time to find a new ride. Both Contender and Regulator and SeaVee would be on my short list all have a wider beam and could handle twins much better that our 8.3 beam SeaCrafts. Good luck

Hum, hard to tell with just a few pics, but what caused that port aft scum line. Did the tide put it there after it sank outward or did the boat get caught under on the up tide and roll in first then outward on the falling tide?
How much does the tide move there. That big cross timber looks like big trouble if the anything get hung under. Obviously nice to know if it was a dock issue, before the next victim gets held under. The clues are there, just need to piece it together ... Good Luck, Nick Quote:

In my previous post I noted the scum line. NO DOUBT ABOUT IT
It got caught under the dock and filled through the vent. The rest is history. Peter, take the insurance money and reinvest in the old girl. You will regret letting her go. Hopefully you could put her in top notch shape with what you get. See ya, Ken

Peter sorry to hear it. As for the culprit I'm pretty sure it was the engine well drain. As I told you the day we raise it that the drain sat well below the waterline, and with the bilge hatch covers in the well not being sealed the water slowly trickled in and put'er down. It definitely didn't go down fast it squatted for some time before the water reached the vents, then it was all over.
I hear Jones Brothers are coming out with a 26 this year, that might be something to look into. I see the 23's all the time. I can't say about the ride but they look sharp.

![]() Was Peter's hatch leaking excessively. In that case it is just a matter of time for bilge pumps to drain the battery. I have a Bomar hatch that seems to be pretty water tight and 2 Rule 1500 bilge pumps. Also curious on your thoughts if the vent water line was the start of the end or the end was already happening prior that the thruhull scuppers were inverting. Maybe it is hard to say, but i figured once the water is close to my vents i am already done. But then again it will take some serious weight to take my pool noodles down! ![]() Peter, best of luck in any direction ... ![]() - Nick |
