edloh-
If it feels flimsy you can always beef it up with some additional layers of glass.

Also, now is a good time to eliminate all the 90 degree corners between the transom skin and the hullsides/bilge. Making large fillets and glassing over with some strips of biaxel will really strengthen the outer skin.

Before installing the transom core you'll just have to go over the inner edges of the core with a round-over bit on the router so that it will fit snug with the newly radiused corners.

I beefed up my outer skin and also the inner skin when I did my boat I have measured a few manufacturers of new boats that use composite materials and the ones I measured had a outer skin of 3/8” and a inner skin of ¼”

Thats been the gold standard for years. There is supposedly some engineering disadvantages to making the outer skin and inner skin equal thicknesses. There is info on this on Pasco's web site.

the outer glass skin is flimsy without the core (obviously). initially i though of adding 1 mat followed by a 1708. (mat - niaxial - mat - core). should i add 2 layers of 1708?

That's exactly what I did. After making the fillets and then glassing a layer of mat and 1708 it was very stiff.

Good Luck-
