Hello again. My 20ft CC has two slight cracks on the topside (left and right sides) toward the front. They are located near one of the openings very near the top of the cap, right above the rod holder cavities. They look like the boat may have absorbed a tremendous amount of upward pressure on the bow, maybe like big, big waves. Flex cracks if you will.
How serious could this be with regard to safety? I think I can grind the cracks down and then glass over it, followed by paint. Is it serious enough to mess with or should I just leave them alone until some major work is due on the boat? Also, on the top of the cap, about 6 feet from the bow and on both sides, there are some spider cracks that the previous owner painted over. Should these be just ground down, and painted or is it recommended that I glass that also? Thanks. HankV |

Could be the previous owner either had out riggers in the rod holders which caused the stress from constant pounding
or solid glass rods in the holders and whacked a low over hang. Pics would help. I know they do not look pretty, but far as a safety issue it does not sound like one. See ya, Ken

Ken,
Thanks for the input. You mentioned low overhang and I know that's not it. These cracks are on the piece by the rod holders that go alongside the hull. They're the ones that you store your rods in when in transit. No outriggers either. As far as the spider cracks on top of the cap, I think it's more cosmetic than anything else, just wanted to mention it. I will try to take pics and then post them if I can work my way through the process for posting them. HankV |

Some are cosmetic, and some aren't. I have some pretty severe spider cracks too, pretty much everywhere there was a screw joining the cap to the hull. When I was climbing out of the boat, one of them cracked all the way through the glass so I know I have some serious work to do, though I have not figured out exactly how, short of taking the liner out. If you are already going to be working on it, might as well fix it
