Default Foam ??

I cannot remove my gunnel rod holders form my 1979 20' Superfisherman ( screw just turns )... I want to install deck plates on the inside for access to nut. Is there foam in there that I will have to contend with ?????

No.. no foam that would inhibit you from working inside the gunnels unless it was added later. I would love to know how others pulled this off myself. I suspect that many cut holes and added pie plates for access.
My rod holders, (which looked like Perko) had nuts holding them on the bottom so I got mean and just ground the screw heads, rod holders, and all down which was a real pain. I had tried drilling out screws with cobalt drill bits and had not gotten anywhere so I was losing my patience. The factory must have installed them while the liner was out.

I dont like the look of pie plates on the on the inside wall of the boat. So I cut an access port, 4 maybe 6 inch, that faces the transom on the inside pocket of the rod storage compartment. I put it as high as possible so its not really visable. You might have to get creative with a rachet taped to broom stick to back up the machine screws that get tightened from the top. This obviously takes two people. Its definitely possible you just have to be a little creative.

i had to do the same thing with my bow rail where it comes to the rear of the boat. some one put speakers there so i just take the speaker out and use a box wrench.. it does take 2 people. even though i used lock washers with lock nuts also they keep coming loose. i dont know what else to do.
