Default Seats / Leaning Post / Cooler-backrest?

I need to replace the 'bass boat' style steel seats on my new to me 89 18'.

Can't decide which would be best. Curious what others think...

I mostly stand while driving the boat, but like sitting sometimes and sitting high up on ped. seats sure is nice.

I love the look of a leaning post, but am worried that its looks only and not functional in terms of resting my big backside.

Like the idea of the cooler backrest option, great storage etc... but am concerned with it being to low to be comfortable when driving...

Any sage advice for me before I commit?

Tx!

They all have their advantages and disadvantages. Find a leaning post that you like and have a backrest made that slides into the rod holders so it can be removed. I think I saw one online awhile back that was set up this way. That would take care of 2 issues. Ultimately, you have to decide what's going to serve you best for your style of boating. I stand while driving and fishing most of the time. Good luck with the search.

I 2nd the leaning post. I would also add sea-deck or some other padding under you feet. I think fellow-ship has one that the back rest moves foward, which can be very useful while fishing when anchored. My seats will be changed to a leaning post next year. Good luck!

just sold my leaning post on my 18 for a swing back cooler seat. Personally I much prefer this seating option when fishing . . . drifting for fluke or chunking for striped bass. 100 pogies fit nicely into the cooler and now the floor baitwell feels much more accessible.

I've been wondering the same thing, as I have nothing in my 18.
I really like the birdsall mini leaning post, unfortunately not in my budget anytime soon.

My 18 has the 1 pedestal seat. I've ordered a padded mini leaning post that fits on the pedestal. It has 2 rod holders and a storage compartment underneath. Small, but, as I said previously, I like an open deck.

I'm liking the leaning posts that are designed with 4 points of attachment. Thinking my 250 lbs would puts too much stress on a post style deck attachment.

Anyone have experience with these guys? http://www.arrigonidesign.com/leanpost.htm

Uncleboo I also like the open deck especially with such a small boat!

I have the 4 post type leaning post and the seat back that fits in the rod holders. Mine is a Birdsail but same style. I love the leaning post, and the back rest seems to be nice in the garage. I can say I have not had it on the boat in 5 years. The leaning post is a little high and deep to sit on and I troll or travel and like to stand anyway.

If you are looking at the leaning posts, I would suggest getting one with some underseat storage as without it it there is some wasted space. I do not have any storage other than a cooler under mine. I often wish I could throw some tackle or rigs in there...

Mine's a lot like their TPF-2 but with no footrest. It's nice with the backrest but you lose two rod holders when in use.

I had a 18’ Hydrasport and have the 23 CC. I like the versatility of the swing seat and have had it on both these two boats. You can swing the back rest forward when fishing or just sitting while drifting or anchored. I also stand like everyone else on the boat while running keeps you from getting beaten up. They are designed to put a cooler under it and has a flip up seat so you can store stuff into as well.
