Re: 1978 18' Seacraft
$5,000-$6,000 with older power. Depending on deferred maint. As low as $4500 and as high as $7000. From Danny's post, the deck needs work down the road and the transom is rebuilt. How is the paint work and paint material quality? I wouldn't pay over $5000, but what do I know................

Make him a $4k offer and tell him that is your "fair mkt value" and go from there.

Re: 1978 18' Seacraft
As said try and find a motor and similar trailer for sale used - add some hull value
NADA might give you a motor price, not overly dependable a start - prive anew trailer and go from there

Re: 1978 18' Seacraft
I bought my 1979 18 about 2 years ago. It is on an aluminum trailer and has a 1994 175 Johnson. Color bottom machine, transom and fuel tank had been replaced in mid to late 90s. I paid 4700.

I went to KellyBlueBook last year and they had a value of my hull at $2200.00.

Re: 1978 18' Seacraft
Kelly can be off on the value of a boat depending on location. I recommend BUC or BoatUS for valuation purposes.
BUC (used to be "Boating Underwiters Corporation", but now it's just BUC) has been the recreational boating industry standard for valuation for 40+ years. NADA values my 20' Seafari hull in average condition at $950, 90 Opti motor at $3400, trailer at $675: Total value $5,025. October 2010 KBB (looked up at local dealer) says $1550 for the hull, $4100 for the motor, and $600 for the trailer: Total value $6250 as of 8 months ago. Boat US values my whole package, Boat Motor & Trailer, including CG equipment and electronics for $6875. I have an "agreed value" insurance policy with them for $9,750, with a $500 deductible ($1,000 deductible for hurricanes) BUC value for my hull is $2350, $3700 for the motor, and they don't give a value for the trailer, but $600 is about right. Total value $5650 Do the research, you'll be glad you did.

Re: 1978 18' Seacraft
As an ex insurance adjuster for boats I say go low and work form there. Fr. Frank is right on the variations between the internet appraisals.
I paid 7k for a 85 18 foot with a 2000 merc 150 and trailer and all I had to do was replace the fuel tank. Everything works on it now and it was re done around 2001 or 02 or so. But it was worth it to me as it was close and the same model and year as the boat I grew up on. |

Re: 1978 18' Seacraft
Really depends where you are. Hopefully it's not selling on this board or my name is gonna be mud...
Last year I passed on an excellent 18 down here in San Diego which sold on ebay for about 2500. I limited my bid to 2200 because I had a 20 and a 23 in the driveway. The motor was an older, but healthy, Evinrude 140 and the trailer was perfect. That same boat just went up for sale again in Huntington Beach for 3200. I talked to the guy and told him to post it here but I'm sure it was gone quickly. The SeaCraft brand is unknown here except to those buying the 95K version in Orange County. " That's like a Mako right???" I don't remember a SeaCraft dealer in SD. Bottom line the motor - a 22 year old 90 - is worth a 1000 at best , the trailer probably less and the hull - well it depends on the market... say "you don't want to offend but," and offer 2500 and take his temperature. Boat business is stupid - someone makes out like a bandit... How the hell is a 200 etec worth more than a Toyota Corolla that will get you 35 mpg every day for the next 20 years??? This certainly doesn't hold true in the used market. What is the boat worth to you? That's the top price you should pay. Look there's a sucker born every minute. Just don't let 'em see you comin'
