Well Guys, I took the apart the battery lugs and replaced ends on battery cables, bolted new power post to the transom and fires right up. No voltage drop. I think the welding wire would have probably failed down the road. Florida is the worst for corrosion.

I restored my 1970 20 SF 30 years and yes the welding wire was used at that time.. Soldered terminal lugs, epoxy heat-shrinked running through a chase and tube to the engine.. Done correctly it will last forever. I used tin coated copper for all the other house wiring system.. To this day have never blown a fuse or had electrical issues once !! I have been to the keys, west coast, you name it always around salt air.. Mostly out of Ponce Inlet .. Enough said...
