Default Re: we aren't so bad after all

Mark; yes. that is exactly where the disease leads. although, this guy has me beat hands-down on the "miles of wiring" he's removed. Very impressive!

Inspecting one of my transmissions revealed a hole in the case (caused by previous owner not fixing a leak in the raw water pump), which meant moving an engine, which meant removing the exhaust, which meant removing the heads, which mean new motor mounts which meant all new fuel/oil lines which meant new battery-engine wiring, which meant moving the watermaker which meant moving the generator, which uncovored a rotted genset deck, which uncovered a leaking rudder post, which also meant new dripless shaft logs (while we were out) which meant replacing 4 seacocks, and while your at it might as well major the engine, and install new scoop strainers for main intakes, which meant that you found cracked heads and needed a new blower, and while the tranny is off you might as well replace the main bearings/seals, and since you can swap injectors to the new version and get 50hp, might as well change the other engine' injectors so it runs straight, and while your'e at it, should install airseps, and while the engine is apart, might as well bead-blast and awgrip the whole thing, then the other won't match, so you might as well do that one.........be happy you have to agonize over cutting up the floor to replace a fuel cell or whack off the transom with a sawsall....it gets worse.
