23' Cuddy or CC with Yamaha 150 4 Stroke's?
Does anyone have a pair of these on a 23'?
I currently have a pair of '95 25" Yamaha 150's on a 23' Cuddy and am considering upgrading to the 150 4 stroke's. I would like to hear how the 23 performs with this setup. These motors are supposed to have all the speed and get up of the 2 strokes with 40% better fuel eff. They weigh approx 475lbs which is approx 60lbs more per motor than what i have now. My ass end is lower than i would like, but the scuppers are just above the waterline. I am considering changing to a 100 (have 144 now) gallon fuel tank or partitioning my tank and keeping more of the fuel forward to compensate for the extra weight in the rear. I have been lurking and am a bit confused on all of these performance figures some of you are quoting. Some of you are getting the same speeds as me with 4 stroke 115/140's. I cruise at 4200 RPM's at 30 knots with 4 people, 140 gallons of fuel and a 200 lbs of gear and ice. With this same load i get around 38-39 knots WOT at 5400RPM's. I am running 3 blade 17" pitch Powertech S/S props and can get around 5700 with a light load and trimmed way up. My engines are mounted on the top hole so they cant go any higher. I have to trim all the way down when i get on step to prevent cavitation so i think going higher would hurt more than help. Am i setup wrong or are we not comparing apples to apples with loads, etc. I am also considering the Hermco if i go with the 4stroke 150's. Any comments are greatly appreciated, and sorry to be so long winded. |
