Inboard and outboard advantages??????

Hey guys, I'm new to the forum and I've got a few questions. I'm currently looking at a 1977 23' center console with an inboard. It has a 5.8 volvo in it right now, but it is currently not running. Might be able to bring it back to life but I'm not sure yet. Now to the questions.....

What are the advantages do inboards have over outboards, if any? I have run outboards on previous boats and I was wondering what others think is better. Which, in general, have better gas consumtion and higher top and crusing speeds.

Is converting an inboard to an outboard even an option? I have seen where inboard/outboard boats were converted to outboards using a stern bracket. I know the hull design is different at the stern of the boat where the shaft, prop, and rudder come out. Will this effect the water flow or anything else when converting to an outboard?

Lastly, how will moving the weight out of the center of the boat to the rear of the boat effect the stance and ride of the boat? I have read that adding the stern bracket adds some flotation to the rear. Would that be enough to counter the change in weight?
