Default looking to repower my 72 23' cc sf 5.7L i/o

I'm looking to get the most out of this wonderful
hull inside and out! My current 5.7L i/o set-up is def
not the best way to go for deck space, fuel efficency
and reliability. Anybody have feedback in reference to the 250 or 300hp four stroke on a bracket performance? How bout smaller hp twins?
I still have the original 90deg scupper holes. i've been looking to modify them aswell but am not sure if I can cross the drain holes or something? Any input or recommendations would be very helpful. Thank's -Brian
