Any deer on my property who eats even one leaf of cultivated agricultural product, whether ornamental or food-producing, is likewise legally a "pest", and may be "destroyed", "eliminated", or "controlled" without penalty, providing such action is reported to the state within 60 days. One control method I really like that I saw at a neighbor's place is a 12' high net, 600' long, which can be swiftly raised, trapping the, um, "pests" in an enclosed area, from where they can be herded/driven into an enclosure designed to control their access to the aforementioned agricultural product. Within that 2 acre enclosed area, to prevent accusations of cruelty, the dee_, I mean pests, are fed properly, and given minerals and vitamins. When the numbers grow too large for their herd health, the herd is "culled" to maintain healthy numbers. He "controls" the encroachment of these "pests" by removing several "pests" every year from his garden, and putting them into the enclosed area. He "culls" about 6-8 deer, er, "pests" per year on his little 40 acre piece of bottom land. It's for their own good, of course. ![]()
