Default Waterline stripe,paint or vinyl?

I used vinyl to put the waterline stripe on my Tsunami, and it looked great.
That is until I was at the dock and noticed and saw twenty feet of it hanging in the water.
I ordered this stuff from a place that specializes in vinyl striping, and I've done other boats before with no issues.I did notice that ut didn't feel all that sticky when I went to apply it.

I'm wondering if I should paint it instead.I painted the boat with a two part urethane made by Epifanes which is roughly the same formula as Imron.

I'd really rather use vinyl as It would be less prep work, but would paint it if I had too.
Anyone know a good source for vinyl that actually sticks good.
I have a friend in the sign business who may be able to help, but I don't need anything wide, which is what he mostly deals with.
