Default Drain hole, in floor live well 23' SeaCraft CC?

As winter approaches I again fear the following scenario:

It rains. The in-deck livewell on my 23' SeaCraft Center Console fills with water. Temps drop below freezing for a week and the livewell freezes solid.

I have always thought that this filling and freezing would bust something. Has anyone had any problems with this? Has anyone considered drilling a drain hole in the bottom of the livewell as a drain when the boat is on the trailer? This hole could be drilled to the size of a standard boat plug, and plugged when the livewell was in use.

Just a thought. Any other ideas? Irrational concern?

Thanks, Jeremy
