Potter had several molds for the 23 hull when he sold out to SeaCraft industries. My understanding is that only 1 of them had the hook in it and he supposedly told them not to use that mold. Although I looked at one boat with a hook in it, it's apparently not very common. The owner of that particular boat was not even aware of the hook and had not reported any handling problems.

The later model Sceptre's with the fiberglass boxes have more weight forward and I believe they used plywood instead of balsa core in the decks. Some guys that replaced the aft deck have reported finding pig iron ballast weights in the stern, evidently installed at factory to maintain correct trim.
