Default Re: Proper placement of trimtabs

Generaider, just as everyone else has suggested ….. I posed this exact question directly to Tom (tabman) awhile ago …..
I had asked about size and mounting options …. As I did not want to go across the lifting strake ….due to the variable deadrise. As I recall the first recommendation was for an 18” tab …as calculated on the website…hence what I wrote below

From the centerline to the first lifting strake its about 15.5 " then to the next strake 14.25" and then to the chine 15.25". I also snooped around and found some other 23's with tabs. Basically they all looked to have a 12" span but some had a 9" chord and other a 12" (Seacraft 23 inboard and a 24 Silverhawk had the 12").

and to quote his response …..
“…..the 12" x 12" would be the better choice, it is more in keeping with our guidelines and the space that the strakes allow. If you choose the 12" x 12" you would be happy.
I would suggest that the M120 will be a better choice. It provides about the same amount of lift as a 12" x 12' due to the fins on the sides. They capture water pressure that normally escapes out the sides of the Tab and channel it aft for additional lift. The M120s come with a Rocker Switch Control as standard, and the pre connected hydraulic fittings will make it easier to install.
You can mount either the 12" x 12" or the M120 in 3" from the chine and run the Tab right up to the strake. I have marked what I mean on a copy of the photo you sent me, it is attached to this e-mail.”

I would have to assume that these suggestions still stand ….. Tom is a great person to deal with … and helps in anyway he can
