Default Making a Transom Cap

I decided to make a mold for the transom cap and rear wall for my 23cc this weekend. The mold is made out of 2x4, 2x8 and some hard board that I got at Home Depot. The hard board cost only $6.00 for a 4x8 sheet (compared to $30.00 for formica) and provides a very smooth surface. It took me a full day of figuring to get it the way I wanted. You have to think upside down and backward which I'm not too good at. I wanted to keep the natural arch of the transom... the way it was originally designed by Mr. Potter. To create the beveled edges I used micro-bubbles mixed with epoxy to a thick paste and used a cheap pottery tool I got at the local craft store. Some sanding was required to get the bevel smooth after the putty dried. I then coated the mold with one layer of epoxy. The mold was waxed and buffed by hand. Two layers of heavy cloth and one layer of 1708 biaxial were applied. The edges of the arch were reinforced with 4 inch 1708 tape. It's not finished yet but here are some pics of it along with a link to more pictures. Note the flange for the floor to sit on. I still have to add the 5/8 inch core cell and another 1 or 2 layers of 1708 to the inside over the core cell. Looks like it fits good
